What a neat little toy... so it looks like a toaster? No biggie, it just works great!

Setting up the hardware was fairly simple, use a coin to open the front access panel, plug in 1 or 2 hard drives (make sure the jumpers are set to cable select), connect the AC adapter and network cable and you are done.

Loading the software was a little tricky, the software loads from the provided CD just fine, but when you connect to the device it prompts you to check for the latest version of software. The latest version available at the time crashed my PC (Running XP Home)  I did a quick de-install and reinstalled the original software from the CD and everything worked great. The latest version of the software that I recently downloaded also works fine.

When you run the software it allows you to easily configure the drives either as a RAID pair, or two different drives. Each drive has it's own IP address and it is not (AFAIK) possible to configure BOTH drives as one like I was hoping to do!

Life with the Netgear SC101 NAS is pretty good, the only problem I ran into was when we had an outage, one of the PC's wanted to be on the same IP as the NAS had already taken from the DHCP server.  A quick change was made to the PC in question and everything is good once more. Bottom line here, if you want a PC on your network with a fixed PC, don't make it between .100 and .199

We've had the drives running for a few months now and are really happy with them, we run Ghost 9 and Ghost 10 on the PC's and scheduled backups occur seamlessly!

Quick Tip

On the case....
Be careful when you buy a case, some come with NO power supply. There is nothing worse than having a box of parts and no power supply to run them once you put them together!
